O Governo Trump e a Descontinuidade da Equipe 18F: Impactos e Repercussões

O governo do presidente dos Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, por meio do Departamento de Eficiência Governamental, liderado pelo bilionário Elon Musk, descontinuou a equipe 18F, um grupo de especialistas em tecnologia que atuava na modernização digital dos serviços federais.
Criada em 2014 durante o governo do ex-presidente Barack Obama, a 18F foi alocada na Administração de Serviços Gerais (GSA) e desempenhou um papel fundamental na melhoria dos serviços digitais do governo. Entre suas principais contribuições, destacam-se a reformulação de sites governamentais e a criação do serviço gratuito de declaração de impostos da Receita Federal Interna (IRS), facilitando o acesso de contribuintes aos serviços fiscais.
A decisão de descontinuar a equipe foi informada em um e-mail enviado por Thomas Shedd, diretor de Serviços de Transformação Tecnológica da GSA, ao qual a Reuters teve acesso. No comunicado, Shedd afirmou que o grupo foi classificado como “não crítico” e, por isso, desligado. Uma fonte da GSA revelou que cerca de 90 funcionários da 18F tiveram seus acessos imediatamente bloqueados.
A medida gerou diferentes reações. Elon Musk, que comanda o Departamento de Eficiência Governamental, respondeu a uma publicação na rede social X que classificava a 18F como um “escritório de computadores de extrema-esquerda do governo” afirmando que o grupo foi “deletado”.
Ainda que a equipe tenha sido descontinuada, o site gratuito de impostos da IRS permanece online. O GSA não respondeu a solicitações de comentários sobre a decisão e seus impactos a longo prazo.
A descontinuidade da 18F levanta questionamentos sobre o futuro da modernização digital no governo norte-americano. Enquanto defensores da medida argumentam que a iniciativa visa aumentar a eficiência e reduzir custos, críticos apontam a importância da equipe para a acessibilidade e inovação nos serviços públicos digitais.
